Did you say a bar of soap? – My go to skincare routine.

Did you say a bar of soap? – My go to skincare routine.

When I was in college, I used to wash my face with a bar of soap in the shower. Looking back I am pretty disgusted with this routine for a few reasons. 1. Washing your face with a surface that has scrubbed other unmentionable surfaces on your body is never ok. And 2. I’m pretty sure my college roommates used my bar of soap more than once. And washing your face with a surface that has scrubbed unmentionable surfaces of someone ELSE’s body? There are no words.

Just about the only good thing I did do for my skin was religiously apply sunscreen. And while it annoyed the living crap our of me growing up, I am thankful for my mom chasing me down to slather it all over my face, and for constantly supplying me with it until I moved out of the house. There is no substitute for protecting your skin from the sun. So yeah, thanks mom.

Until I got pregnant with my first little human at 29, I never worried about aging. But all of a sudden, the thought of being the old looking mom in the kindergarten drop off line made me re-think my skincare routine…which by the way had upgraded from a bar of soap to a $2.99 face wash from Wal-Mart. So what do most women do when they want to find a product that works? They scan their friend pool and ask their friends with perfect skin for their secret. In my case, my cousin Brittany literally had, and still has, the most beautiful skin of anyone I’ve ever met. So I asked, and she spilled. Rodan + Fields. And now people ask me what I use to get my glowy skin. Some even ask to touch my face because it looks so soft…cause that’s not weird at all.

Now, I won’t even try to hide the fact that yes, I do sell this stuff. However, six years ago, I was just a customer looking for a great product. My only regret is spending four years of cash on products when I could have just joined the company immediately and made money while I washed my face. But hindsight right? So yes, I work for the company, but for the first four years I was a faithful customer of this brand, and it’s still the skincare that I use methodically every single day, almost six years later. And I think I still look pretty good as a 34 year old mom of three. I’m also not naive enough to think that every human on Earth will try this exact product line and love it. We have other lines for the rest of you people.

If you’re only going to wash your face once, do it at night so that you don’t go to bed with your makeup on. I won’t bore you with a million facts on how it ages you…just take one for the team and do it.

Pre-step #1
I like to remove my make-up with my favorite ultra calming wipes by Aveeno. They’re gentle, soft, and they easily remove mascara and eyeliner. You can buy them at Target for about six bucks.

Step #1: Redefine Daily Cleansing Mask
This is a Kaolin clay-based mask that dries on your face while you brush your teeth. Or wash your armpits. Basically, this little gem draws all the impurities out of your skin so that you can fill it in with the good stuff.

Step #2: Redefine Pore Minimizing Toner
No one likes big pores. I don’t care what they tell you. No one wants none of that. This alcohol-free toner exfoliates, reduces the size of those craters, and preps it for the good stuff.

Step #3 AM: Active Hydration Serum
THIS. STUFF. IS. AMAZING. Seriously, it’s like a unicorn created it. That’s why it got its own special gold chalice for the picture. You see, moisturizers don’t always add moisture…they more prevent your skin from losing moisture. This oil-free baby right here raises your skin’s moisture level by 200%. If that doesn’t matter to you, think of it as a lightweight serum that by day 3 magically gives your skin a healthy glow, regardless of your skin type. If that still doesn’t sound cool enough, Rodan + Fields created their own molecule in order to get all this magicalness to happen. When was the last time you created a molecule?

Step #4: Redefine Triple Defense Treatment
This bad boy does double duty. It protects your skin with SPF 30 (so Mama Marian would be happy) while also using peptides to reduce those awesome “I have a toddler” lines.

Step #3 PM: Overnight Restorative Cream
Vitamins, Hyaluronic Acid, and Glycerin. Basically think of your favorite cocktail and translate that into a night cream that also makes you look younger. Boom.

Step #5: Redefine Multi Function Eye Cream
This stuff is pretty much like crack because it takes the mom zombie out from your eyes by targeting fine line and wrinkles, under eye dark circles, and those awesome “I haven’t slept in months” bags.

So that’s it! And no whining about “not having the time for all those steps”. I’ve timed myself multiple times and it literally takes less than three minutes. Do you complain about the three minutes it takes to wash your unmentionable places? Then you have three minutes to scrub the stuff that’s been stuck to your face all day. Yes, it is on the pricier range, but spread out over 60-90 days, I guarantee you spend more on those nonfat, sugar-free vanilla chai lattes.

I have no idea who orders those delicious things…
